About Oak Mercer

Oak Mercer is a home decor store. We sell the things that finish a room: throw blankets and pillow covers, wall planters and vases, wall shelves, table lamps and soft LED lights, wooden serving boards and trays, coasters, table runners and placemats, glassware, wall clocks, macrame hangings, and a short run of seasonal pieces each autumn.

What we choose and why

We keep the range small on purpose. A piece earns a place here when it does one job well and looks right next to the things people already own. That usually means a quiet shape, an honest finish, and a colour that sits close to natural. We would rather carry one good serving board than six versions of the same idea.

Materials we favour

Solid wood, because it takes a mark and still looks good. Fired ceramic, because it holds weight and keeps its glaze. Glass, because it stays clear and cleans easily. Woven linen and jute, because they soften a room and get better with washing and use. These materials age rather than wear out, which is the whole point of buying them once.

Made with renters in mind

Most of our wall pieces hang from a single nail. The planters, the clocks, the macrame hangings and the smaller shelves all mount on one fixing, so you can put them up quickly and take them down without leaving much behind. If you move often, or your lease is strict about walls, that matters more than any styling note we could write.

How we talk about things

We describe what a product is, what it is made from, and what it will do in a room. If something is small, we say so. If a finish varies between pieces, we say that too. Natural grain, glaze and weave are never identical from one item to the next, and we treat that as worth mentioning rather than worth hiding.
